Tonight at the fitness center, Jeff Galloway is coming and speaking to us about his run/walk/run program. I am going to go and see if this is something I want to do. I have also looked into the running groups in Nixa. I have a lot of options, and I want to make sure I do this right. I know I need a support group that I can run with, and I need structure. I am not sure if I can do that myself right now. I need a coach, I guess.
I am just trying to get past this funk I have been in and refocus.

Do you have your sights set on a particular marathon? Ideally, it'd be one that is local to your area so that you'd have a bigger local group of "first timers" who also plan on doing it. Here in Cincinnati, the big event is the Flying Pig Marathon (coming up just this Sunday). Running stores and community/fitness centers throughout the city have training plans for runners of most experience levels. Some are free, others cost money. But they generally all have regular group runs (at a variety of paces), including focussed runs for things like hills, fartleks, and general distance. Personally, my schedule was already way too packed and crazy for more scheduled training, so I have been training on my own on a "floating schedule".
But if you're looking for a group running team, I'd certainly look at the local sponsors of your selected marathon, and see if they have a group training offering. You can also check at your local running specialty store as well.
