Tummy Troubles

I have not been feeling all that great this week.  Monday started off bad.  I didn't feel good, and I tried to sleep it off.  I had an upset stomach all that day.  I felt good Tuesday morning and had a great run and workout. When I got to work later that day, I had a headache, and it moved to my stomach that afternoon.  Wednesday I almost went home from work, because my stomach hurt so much.  I wasn't able to eat much all day.  Then this morning, I got up and ran.  I did not have enough energy from the lack of calories I had been eating.  I got a little over a mile in and just ran out of gas.  I was able to get the miles in through walking.  I started boot camp and had to leave 15 minutes in.

I guess we all have days/weeks like these, but it is frustrating.  I really felt like I was on a roll.  Getting some great workouts and miles in, and now I am just feeling like garbage.

We got 4 miles in this morning.  I started running with Bob, but like I said, I just ran out of gas. Pat stuck back with me.  It was really nice running with him today.  I have really enjoyed running with everyone so far.  Pat has lost 80 lbs and has run a marathon.  I really like how he told me, "I have received so much help from this group.  I just want to give back."  He told me that when I said I felt bad slowing him down on his run today.  Everyone has a great story, and I love hearing them!  I cannot wait to be the one hanging back with the person starting and telling them they can do it.

What do you do when you do not feel good?  Do you still train or do you just take time off?

Who inspired you to run, and who is your greatest support now?

This happened to me today. I went out to run, even though I knew I was a "little" dehydrated. It was a near run-tastrophe of the worst kind. It was especially hard after yesterdays epic run, to know on the 3rd step that my legs were wasted.

Being a "little" dehydrated or a "little" sick is a little like being a "little" pregnant. Either you are, or you're not. You can't head out to run/fitness set up for a fail and wonder why it went down in a bad way. Ultimately this is why training plans have rest days and cross training days, so we can rearrange and rest when our body needs it. I wish I had rested today and run tomorrow.

One day when you're having a great day you'll see someone having a tough time, and you'll stick by them. You'll tell them that "we all have days like this"... and you'll understand why it's such silliness to say, "I'm sorry I'm slowing you down on the run"...

~savor the run~

(Oh and thank you for the compliment & comment. made me smile)

I usually try to run anyway, but I know that some days just aren't going to be as good as others and lower my expectations if I know I am going into a run not feeling great or whatever. I hope your stomach is feeling better soon and if you need to take a rest day, listen to your body adn do it. I am very ready for my rest day tomorrow!

If I'm sick I'll usually try to run: sometimes I feel better for it, other times I cut the run short.
Coming back from being depleted like that can be tough. Take care.
Inspired me to run? Not sure. Always loved watching Olympic coverage though.

My friend Angela, a good runner since we were kids, was my initial inspiration for running. Now it's people like you and Erin, and my own goal, that keep me going.

When I feel like you're feeling this week, I don't fool around any more: I rest. I need a lot of sleep and I get overtrained easily. I've learned the hard way that if I want to hit my goals, I can't skimp on rest, especially when it's really obvious I need it.

That said, it WILL pass. Just be patient with yourself and know you are awesome!!

Hope you feel better - as for when I am sick I have been trying to follow the plan of just get out there and try, if you need to stop then stop. Often getting in a run makes me feel better.
