I Have A Plan...

Good morning!

I have been talking a lot about my career and what I want to do for the rest of my life, and I think I have decided what I want to pursue.  My friend, Shane, sent me an e-mail after reading my post about going to nursing school.  He suggested I study to be a physical therapist assistant.  He is in school to be a physical therapist right now. A few days ago, he was working on someone and thought to himself, "Chris would be good at this."  We talked on the phone for a good hour.  I started researching the programs here in Springfield and really got excited about it.

I remembered one of my friends, Brandon, is currently going through the program.  I called him last night, and we talked for a while about it.  He was telling me what to expect, how hard it is to get into the program, and about possible directions I could go with this degree.  He confirmed my desire to do this.  It just keeps feeling like the right thing to do.

The other programs I was looking into seemed fun, but when I heard about the PTA program, I really felt like that is what I needed to pursue.  Anyone who knows me well knows that I can get excited about something and talk a bunch about it. When I hit a road block, then I might lose interest.  I have to really want it to stick with it.  I have already hit a lot of road blocks and things that will make this hard, but I am still excited, and I am finding out ways to get around them.  I know running and getting healthy has helped me become the kind of person who will not be discouraged and find ways to make this happen.

Before I can even get into the program, I need to take 2-4 classes.  I am hoping it's only two.  I am going to be talking to the school and finding out for sure.  Then, I have to apply for the program.  They take 24 people.  When Brandon applied, there were 100 people trying to get in.  So it is hard to get into. However, I know that if I work hard and really show that this is something I want to do, then I will get in.  It might take me a year, but it will be worth it.

Speed work today was okay.  I was a little late getting to the track and then my foot started hurting again.  I didn't complete the work out.  It is frustrating to have this pain.  I want it to go away, and I do not want it to effect my progress......

Good luck! I'm so excited for you. Figuring out what you want to do makes life so much easier, even if it is hard.

Don't get too frustrated about taking extra classes, I had to take about 2 full semesters worth of classes over before I could get accepted into PT school!! That's probably at least 6-8 classes, i'm not positive but it was a lot!! But I knew it was what I wanted to do and if you are determined enough you can do this!! Just keep your eyes on the prize man!!
